What does "military friendly" even mean?
That term is used a lot, and in a lot of ways, and it can become quite confusing for active military, military families, veterans, and beneficiaries to figure out who or what is "military friendly" in the state of WV. WV has had two recognitions for several years: The Five Star Challenge (for public colleges and universities granted by OVET) and the Purple Star (for K-12 schools and districts granted by the WVDE) that help our fellow West Virginians know that they support our military and veterans.
However, we want to be clear about who and what is military friendly here in our Mountain State! This designation allows for any post-secondary option--universities, colleges, career and trade schools, apprenticeships, on-the-job training programs, flight schools, correspondence courses, prep courses, and certification entities to meet the standards that then show them to be military friendly!
The designation of being a Purple Star facility will be valid for two years from the time of acceptance*. This is to encourage all post-secondary options to keep doing the good things that make our military, veterans, and families feel supported here in Almost Heaven.
*After the two-year period has expired, there will be a separate form for our Purple Star facilities to fill out to renew their designation for another two years.
