Recognizing this life-changing opportunity is not just for athletes
April 7, 2021
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – High schools across West Virginia are recognizing their seniors who have committed to pursuing education or training beyond high school.
More than 60 schools have registered to participate in the College Foundation of West Virginia’s (CFWV’s) annual statewide “College Decision Day” campaign. College Decision Day events provide educators and underclassmen the opportunity to celebrate seniors’ ambitions to continue their education beyond high school. College Decision Day events are happening statewide now through June 1.
Students who have committed to entering a certificate program, a career or technical program, a two- or four-year degree program, an apprenticeship program or military service will be recognized during College Decision Day events.
“We’re thrilled to have so many schools participating in our College Decision Day initiative this year,” said Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker, West Virginia’s Chancellor for Higher Education. “Making the decision to continue your education after high school – no matter what that path looks like – is a really big deal, and it should be celebrated. These young people are working hard and they’re staying focused on their futures, and we applaud them. We also applaud the schools for celebrating their college-bound seniors, and for stepping up to help them navigate the college-planning process.”

This initiative is one of CFWV’s three college-planning milestones. The first milestone, which is the statewide FAFSA Completion Campaign, began October 1 with the launch of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. The next milestone is College Application & Exploration Week, which occurred last fall and prompted students of all ages to explore college options while assisting students who will attend college this fall in applying to their chosen schools. Schools that participate in all three milestones and meet other requirements will be recognized this fall as a CFWV Champion of College Access and Success.
