West Virginia’s College Decision Day initiative is part of a growing national effort to celebrate seniors for their postsecondary plans and assist them and their families in enrolling in and transitioning to college.
College Decision Day WV is one of West Virginia’s three statewide college-planning milestone events that, along with College Application and Exploration Week and statewide FAFSA completion events, help guide 12th grade students and their families in planning, applying and paying for college. High schools that participate in all three activities and complete the required post-event surveys will be recognized in Fall 2025 as a CFWV Champion of College Access and Success.
Schools across West Virginia are invited to join us in this effort by registering as an official CFWV College Decision Day site. Schools that register will be included in a statewide news release, to be distributed the week following the registration deadline, recognizing the effort and local schools' participation.
Requirements for participation:
The College Decision Day effort encompasses two primary components:
- A celebration to recognize students who have chosen to pursue some form of postsecondary education, including two-year or four-year degree programs, certificate or workforce training programs, career and technical programs, and military service.
- A workshop or presentation to assist students and families in enrolling in and transitioning to college programs.
Both components must be present for an event to be recognized as an official College Decision Day event. Additionally, the event must occur between April 1 and June 1, and participating schools were encouraged to register before the priority date of September 30th when they registered for all Pathway to Champion Events. Schools that registered by the priority date received a box for all Pathway to Champion Events and links to the online resources and toolkits that house downloadable resources. Online resources will be updated in the coming weeks. Keep checking back for updates and new materials. Finally, event coordinators at participating schools must also complete a brief online survey within seven days following their local event.
